Bolton’s Fund: Young people to shape a greener future | News

Bolton’s Fund is backing young people to lead their own climate projects and help make the place they live cleaner and greener.

As part of Bolton’s ongoing commitment to tackle climate change, Bolton’s Fund launched its latest funding round last week focused on environmental issues.

This includes £5,000 specifically set aside for Bolton residents aged 13 to 21, who will be invited to pitch their idea for a £500 climate project.

Youth groups and eco-councils are invited to take part by producing a 'Dragons' Den' style pitch for grant funding.

Each successful project will be genuinely youth-led from the original idea right through to completion.

The scheme was designed with Youth MPs and the Youth Council and young people will also be involved in deciding who receives the grants.

Louise Warburton, a member of Bolton Youth Voice and GMYCA Ambassador, said:

“The climate debate is important to young people because we want to reach our full potential in a safe and sustainable world.

“We can’t do that without taking action now. I would encourage young people to apply for this funding to make a difference in Bolton.”

Bolton’s Fund is a voluntary sector grants programme delivered by Bolton Council, NHS Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group, Bolton at Home and Bolton CVS.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Cllr Nadim Muslim, said:

“We know how engaged young people are when it comes to environmental issues and we want to empower them to make a real difference in their community.

“Their work will complement the many other ongoing projects across the borough as the council fulfils its commitment to making Bolton cleaner and greener.”
