Real Living Wage

Real Living Wage

At Bolton at Home, we’re committed to making sure that work pays fairly for everybody. One of the ways we do this, and support the local economy, is by paying at least the real Living Wage and encouraging other employers to do the same.

The Living Wage Foundation (www.livingwage.org.uk) is the national organisation that champions the real Living Wage. It calculates the real Living Wage to cover the cost of everyday needs, from rent, heating and food bills, through to other unforeseen costs such as an emergency trip to the dentist.

The real Living Wage is the minimum amount per hour that accredited employers pay their employees over the age of 18. The new rate has been announced at the start of this #LivingWageWeek. It will increase by 20p to £9.50 (outside of London). This is compared to the national minimum wage of £8.72 per hour for people aged 25 and over.

Living Wage employers are expected to have started paying employees the new rate by May. We already pay more than the new rate.

We’re one of over 7,000 employers across the country who ensure employees are paid at least the real Living Wage and we try to instil these values in other organisations. We’ve voluntarily paid people more than the real Living Wage for years and we became a Living Wage accredited employer in 2018.

Jon Lord, our Chief Executive, said: “At Bolton at Home we’re committed to supporting people and the local economy. Paying the real Living Wage is the right thing for employers to do as it provides a clear benefit to society. It means employees are paid fairly to meet the real cost of living and employers can run productive businesses with motivated staff.”
