There's a chance that the safety and quality of your water could have been affected by the growth of bacteria (such as Legionella) if you’ve been away from home for a bit - for example, if you've been on holiday, or in hospital.
This could also be the case if you have showers or taps in your home that aren't used regularly.
Inhaling small water droplets containing Legionella bacteria can lead to a lung infection called Legionnaires' disease - but there are a number of straightforward steps you can take to keep your water system clean and reduce the chances of Legionella being present in your water.
