The new homes are being built on the former St Osmund’s RC Primary School site on Blenheim Road in Breightmet, Bolton. We expect them to be ready by summer 2024.
There’ll be eleven three bedroom houses, five two bedroom houses and a three storey apartment block of 18 one bedroom apartments and six two bedroom apartments.
When complete, they’ll be for affordable rent and eight of the houses will be available for Rent to Buy.
With Rent to Buy, a person can move into a new home, renting the property on an Assured Shorthold Tenancy basis for a period of five years. During this time, they’ll pay a reduced rent of 80% of the full open market rent value.
They can purchase their home from us on a Shared Ownership basis during years one to five, or on an outright basis at the end of the five-year term.
We’re working with housing developer and contractor McCauls on this scheme. We’ve previously worked together to provide new affordable homes at St Mary’s in Horwich and Barton Road in Farnworth.
Joe McCaul, director at McCauls, said: “I am pleased to be continuing our relationship with Bolton at Home with the scheme at Breightmet and it’s great to be on site bringing much needed new homes for the community. We make every effort to use local labour and the majority of contractors are based in Greater Manchester keeping income in the local economy.”
Dominic Conway is our group director of development and growth. Dominic said: “We’re building new homes to help more people into a warm, comfortable and sustainable place to live that’s also affordable. On this development the new homes include one bed apartments and family homes.
“Building new homes helps to reduce the pressure on our housing system, creating more housing choice and ultimately reducing the risk of overcrowded homes or people experiencing homelessness. We also hope these homes will support the local community, reusing a derelict piece of land for good.
Once completed, all new homes for rent are advertised through www.homesforbolton.org.uk
