Staff and customers of Bolton at Home are in the running for awards that recognise excellent and pioneering work in social housing and people who've made a significant difference to communities.
Bolton at Home’s Dramatic Action customer drama group has been shortlisted for the Excellence in Equality and Diversity accolade at the annual TPAS Awards, while its Customer Involvement Team is up for Team of the Year.
Meanwhile, tenants Margaret Willcock and Xavier Schuller have been named in the Tenant of the Year and Young Tenant of the Year categories respectively.
Tracy Woods, Chair of Bolton at Home, said: “To be shortlisted for four Tpas awards is a fantastic achievement, which demonstrates the wonderful work within our communities.
“All of the nominees are very worthy of the recognition and we’re incredibly proud. Margaret and Xavier are making a real difference in their neighbourhoods, while Dramatic Action has raised awareness of key issues, engaged customers and helped them to develop their skills. Our Customer Involvement Team plays a big part in achieving our vision of creating neighbourhoods of which we can all be proud.”
Dramatic Action is an inclusive theatre group made up of people from a range of backgrounds who had never acted before. The group creates and performs plays based on real-life experiences to encourage discussion of the issues raised.
The Customer Involvement Team is being recognised for excelling at engaging tenants and residents with the work of Bolton at Home and by helping almost 300 people to develop new skills over the last year.
Margaret Willock’s work to reduce isolation within the elderly community caught the judges’ attention. As well as being treasurer for Maltby Residents Association, she organises charity and social events throughout the year and secured £7,000 of sponsorship in 2015 to meet the needs of the community.
Young Tenant of the Year nominee Xavier, 16, has volunteered in a number of ways to help others. They include supporting people and projects at the Willows Community Centre, acting as caretaker for the New Bury Parents Group and encouraging youngsters to develop their sporting skills as part of Bolton Sports Development.
The winners of each award will be announced at the northern final of the 2016 Tpas Awards, which takes place on Friday April 29.
