We want to give you an important update about our Deane UCAN Centre and how our UCAN services in the area are changing.
Our Deane UCAN Centre, based at 2 Oriel Street, will close permanently on 23 December. Deane residents can now access a wide range of UCAN services from our recently opened Bolton UCAN Centre in the town centre.
Our new UCAN service in Bolton Town centre at the Market Place Shopping Centre, which is currently open three days a week but will open five days a week from January 2025, offers a more comprehensive range of support for residents in one place, including our popular Working Wardrobe service.
Residents are also able to walk into our Bolton UCAN Centre without making an appointment. This enables us to serve more people than we do currently at Deane UCAN Centre, which only operates on Tuesdays and by appointment only.
We still intend to offer a Pop-Up UCAN service within Deane at Willows Community Centre and more details on this will be available in the new year.
We’ve been making changes to our UCAN centres to ensure our buildings and services deliver value for money for customers.
The way people use our services has been changing, with some UCAN centres seeing lower footfall and reduced opening hours, especially since the pandemic. By being flexible and introducing more Pop-Up UCAN centres, we can use our resources more effectively to provide support in more communities where our services are most needed.
We’re exploring the potential sale of the Deane UCAN Centre building. This would enable us to reinvest the proceeds of sale in our homes and services.
Exploring a sale of the building is likely to be more cost effective than refurbishing the building ourselves and turning it back into homes.
Our UCAN team remains dedicated to providing you with a warm welcome and personalised support. From our Bolton UCAN Centre in the town centre, and other Pop-Up UCAN centres, you can continue to expect a range of services, including:
· help finding employment,
· use of the internet and computers, and phone,
· training courses,
· access to social activities and community groups,
· assistance with housing issues and benefits,
· health and wellbeing support and advice,
· support with money matters.
