Meet Max (from our contractor, Glendale)

Meet Max (from our contractor, Glendale)

Meet Max.

During the day, Max works for our grounds maintenance contractor, Glendale Services- but by night, he plays the guitar and provides vocals for Manchester-based ‘The Welly House Band’.

Max told us he felt he “had no prospects” before joining Glendale- and that his Kickstart role with them “completely changed [his] life”.

"I was at uni studying Graphic Design but soon learnt that it wasn’t for me. I wanted something working outdoors. I did a brief stint doing roofing work- then the Kickstart placement came up. It was perfect."

Working with a close-knit team of grounds maintenance colleagues, Max helps to look after the green spaces on our estates/land.

“I love this job. It’s mega!”

Now that he’s finished his Kickstart role, Max has moved onto a Level 2 Horticultural apprenticeship, and plans to stay with Glendale going forward- "they’ve been so supportive”.

“I’ve got a purpose now- a schedule” said Max, reflecting on his role.

Even though the Kickstart scheme's finished (with a celebration event on 14 July, hosted by Athena), there’s still so much we can do to help you- or someone you’re close to- into work and/or training**. Take that first step by visiting: boltonathome.org.uk/getting-into-work.

When asked what advice he’d give to others, Max said: “get stuck in- try something new. It can only be beneficial!”

**We can help with work experience placements, interview prep and clothing (through our Working Wardrobe), training, CVs, job searching, rebuilding confidence and motivation, and much more.

Just give us a shout if you need us. Take care.
