October 2024 update on our progress in dealing with damp, condensation, and mould issues (from our CEO, Noel Sharpe):

“We’ve continued to receive a high volume of reports relating to damp, mould, and condensation in the last 12 months, and we believe this is due to a combination of factors. These include pressures arising from higher living costs which can lead to some people having to make tough decisions about heating their homes, but also more awareness of the issue amongst the public in general.

“We recognise that living with damp, mould, and condensation can be very worrying – which is why I wanted to reassure you about our continuing efforts to address issues.

“In my last update, I mentioned that we’d formed a dedicated Damp and Mould Team and introduced a better system for managing damp-related repairs. Since then, we’ve continued to make significant investments to help tackle the number of outstanding cases we have.

“We’ve further increased our budgets for tackling the issue, and, having secured some external funding, we’ve delivered over £3 million in works to remove underlying causes of issues in homes.

“Other measures we’ve introduced in the last year include dedicated liaison officers to support our customers in more complicated cases, specific training for all our staff on how to identify and refer cases of damp and mould to our dedicated team, and a streamlined process enabling us to respond to cases more quickly.

“As always, we want you to know that we’re taking your concerns seriously and we’re absolutely committed to ensuring that all our homes provide a safe, dry, and warm place to live.

"If you’re experiencing any issues with damp, mould, or condensation in your home, or have any concerns about how we’re dealing with these issues, please tell us straight away.

“This page (www.boltonathome.org.uk/damp-condensation-mould) also includes some practical guidance on how to prevent some damp and mould issues from occurring in the first place.”
