We're shining a spotlight on our Apprentice Building Surveyors this week

We're spotlighting our Apprentice Building Surveyors this week. Working across the business, they've continued to hone their skills as they work towards their qualifications - and they’ve been making real differences to customers’ lives in the process.

Their roles involve:

  • completing building and site surveys
  • producing reports, specifications, and schedules of work
  • creating CAD drawings
  • tendering/managing contracts
  • delivering repairs, maintenance, adaptation, refurbishment, and development projects (including
  • advising customers on options for repairs, improvements, and adaptations)
  • developing safety plans and risk assessments
  • providing valuable information to colleagues and responding to their queries

Our apprentices gain a well-rounded perspective on various aspects of surveying, spending time in 14 different areas of the organisation during their apprenticeships. You can meet our current Apprentice Building Surveyors here:

**Having started as an apprentice himself, Kyle Ross acts as a Workplace Mentor for our apprentices. He said:

"Our Building Surveyors play a key role in maintaining our stock and ensuring that our customers are happy, healthy, and safe in their homes. That's why recruiting the right people to represent the business in this role and training them to the required standard is something we take very seriously.

"I'm extremely proud to support our apprentices. Having been an apprentice myself, I know how important it is to have the support of a mentor, a defined development plan, and the required level of exposure during the course of the apprenticeship.

"We've recently reformatted the apprenticeship to align with industry standards. Upon successful completion, each apprentice will have gained Level 4 and 6 qualifications, have the opportunity to gain Chartership Status with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, and will also have five years' experience in the workplace behind them.”

And Barrie Hurst provides apprentices with essential support and guidance as they progress. Barrie said:

“For the last 19 years it’s been my pleasure to work with over 250 apprentices from across all departments in Bolton at Home to help them develop skills, knowledge, and confidence to do the job, and to flourish from the wider development opportunities available at Bolton at Home to become our leaders of the future.

"Like all our apprenticeships, these roles are key to our business plan as they ensure we’re able to fulfil key positions in years to come. They also provide our apprentices with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for successful careers."

We’ll advertise apprenticeships on our www.boltonathome.org.uk/jobs page whenever they're available.
