We're supporting the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in 2024

Yesterday, Monday 25 November was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which will run until Human Rights Day on Tuesday 10 December.

We’ve supported the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence with various community events and arts initiatives** for the past 12 years. Led by the United Nations, it’s a global campaign that:

  • raises awareness of gender-based violence against women and girls,
  • highlights local and global statistics around domestic abuse, femicide and other gender-based issues,
  • challenges discriminatory attitudes,
  • and calls for improved laws and services to end violence against women and girls.

The 16 Days campaign is a yearly call to action, a chance to check in and reflect, a chance to promote vital services, an opportunity to come together to connect, to learn, empower, to challenge and to take up space.

The theme of this year’s campaign is “UNiTE to end violence against women”, highlighting the urgent need to address alarming rates of violence against women and girls globally, and emphasising that there is #NoExcuse for these acts.

**Just like last year, we’ll be working with colleagues from local charities, community groups, and support agencies to deliver a range of events and activities in the region. Stay tuned if you’re keen to be involved in any of our upcoming events, where we’ll be:

  • supporting women to be seen and heard,
  • providing women with spaces to share their experiences,
  • showing solidarity,
  • and building wider support networks…

...as we’ll be sharing details on what’s happening and where soon.

Please remember that help is available if you need it. If you’re at immediate risk from a partner or family member, please get to a place of safety and contact the Police on 999.
